Sneak Peak - All New trakAxPC
Friday, March 20, 2009
image

We’ve been beavering away on the new version of trakAxPC for months now and we thought it was about time that we shared with you what we’ve been up to.

image

We added a rake of new features and functionality and we really do hope you’ll find them as exciting as we do.

We’re going to make a series of updates in the lead up to the new release, but the most important new features are the ability to upload directly to YouTube, export your mixes to all popular formats, including MP3, MP4, M4A, AAC etc., automatic crossfading, collaging or picture-in-picture effects, adding text and credits, video and audio scrubbing and grouping.

In truth, it’s been a hard slog and as with any software development, it has not been without its challenges, set-backs and issues. That said, we’re immensely proud of the new release and we hope it manages to tick all the right boxes with the most important people – you, the users.

I have attached some screenshots of the upcoming release below.

Putting Bread on the Table.

The new version of trakAxPC is being released as a Free application with the option to upgrade to the ‘Pro’ version. The Free version is streets ahead of the application currently available and it will continue to be a fully comprehensive music and video editor and mixer. We will also continue to support all users of the Free version in every way possible on the forum and by email.

However, we also have to eat. Therefore, alongside the free version, we have developed a ‘Pro’ version with some very tempting extra features and functionality. The ‘Pro’ version will be on sale for $24.95 (US Dollars) and will allow users access advanced features such as automatic crossfading, one-click export to YouTube and exporting to popular file formats such as MP3, MP4, AAC and M4A. It probably should be noted that we must pay a license fee for the usage of these formats, which are quite significant and the very affordable upgrade cost for the Pro version helps contribute to the costs of maintaining our development and support team.

We still have a bit of testing to complete, but we are almost there. We’re absolutely excited to get the new release out there and hope it won’t be too much longer.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the new look and feel.

We will be in touch next week with further updates.

$24.95 seems reasonable for the added functionality. Looking forward to trying out the new features. Any word on things like chroma keying, VST sound effects etc...?

I am pumped about the new release though.

I’m in for the buy...the curren version won’t accept all my mp3 purchased from beatport :-(

Posted by  on  Saturday, March 21, 2009  at  07:07 PM

@ The Provider - we did have an issue with a few Beatport files, but this issue is now sorted with the new release and all Beatport files will now play fine.

Thanks Catriona

Good looking software, but if you want some real players in your team, you have to do VST support..Cheers!

Posted by  on  Monday, March 23, 2009  at  01:51 PM

@Joe Pea - thanks for the comments!

@Blacbeard and KS - the VST issue was something we have given a huge amount of thought.

From the outset of the trakAxPC project, we wanted to give a complete beginner the tools to create cool music and video mixes without the learning curve associated with many multimedia applications.

But we don’t aim to do everything – and for this release we have focused our resources on functionality that we feel will benefit the majority of our uses - direct YouTube uploads / more precise beat-matching / automatic crossfading / snap to grid functionality / improved video handling / MP3, MP4, M4A, ACC import and export / addition of text and credits etc.

The new release will not support VST plugins.  If this is something that you need, we would be happy to recommend to you an alternative application.

However, VST support is on our development roadmap and hope to include in future upgrades.

Hi. I Love TrakAx --PC--. I Worked with Acid pro 6 Before TrakAx and I noticed that i Could Make Better Sounding Mixes With TrakAx. The Only thing That Turned me off of TrakAx and made me go back to acid pro at times is that when you have a song at like 80 bpm., and you want to mix it with a song at… say 106 bpm or so, it doesnt allow you to adjust the “origional temop”. it only allows you to cut it in half or double it, and at a close ratio like 80 and 106, you just cant mix them. I really hope Ypu can fix this in the new version, because trak ax is so much better than acid pro.... thanks....  DJ Frank

Posted by DJ Frank  on  Monday, March 23, 2009  at  07:31 PM

@ DJ Frank - thanks for your comments.

In the scenario you outlined, we would normally suggest setting the global tempo to something in between 80 and 106 (eg. 95 BPM) - then set the stretching engine to high-quality (by clicking on the BPM Parameter button in the track area). Normally this would be sufficient to create a mix that sounds pretty good and both tracks should sound fine.

However, if you want the track to play at its original tempo and not beat-matched to the global tempo, click on the segment properties and adjust the tempo to your requirements if necessary. Then “unlock” the track from the global tempo. The track will now play at the original / global tempo.

Hope this helps - if you need further info or some screenshots of this in action, Cormac will be more than happy to help to help you in the forums.

thanks again - Catriona

I can live without VST support and I get where your coming from with the philosophy thing. I think there is a work around I have heard of using a DX effect chainer plugin as a wrapper but have not tried it yet. Buzzing for the new release.

I am really hoping this new version can support hi-def and widescreen. Thats a bit of a deal breaker for me.

Loving your program though!

@rampa - yes, the new version allows you to save your videos at wide screen and high definition resolution.

thanks for the comments everyone.

when can we try it out?

Can’t wait until this comes out !

Posted by IrishFuzzySpartan  on  Monday, April 06, 2009  at  08:32 PM

Is there a test version we can try out for us loyal commentators? :D

Posted by Joe Pea  on  Sunday, April 12, 2009  at  04:50 PM

I’m pretty excited about it myself. The price you’re asking is well beyond reasonable as I find I can do more with the TrakAx than I can with a hundred dollar editor even without the announced upgrades.. I’m surprised the free version is free!

Thanks for all your hard work. Seriously, I doubt I would have maintained my interest in video editing were it not for this program. Videos are such a great medium but to get them to reflect what I want to put out is not easy. TrakAx goes a long way into solving that problem.

Posted by cochisewolf  on  Wednesday, April 22, 2009  at  08:17 PM

This is looking great! so It will support vsts, couldn’t happier, I agree with the comment that working with acid, is a drag, to needlessly coplicated for it’s own good, and sound wise, trackax is just better, for free! It’s easier and straight foreward. I’m an old school musician/producer. I started on 4 track cassette Aws(analogue Work Stations LOL...)I still hace my Yamaha 4 track, but use a Tascam Direct to HDD recorder with fades and knobs. I don’t have the time for Key shifts and learning all the pc stuff, nor do i trust any pc for strictly recording, Track ax in the world of Reason, Logic Ableton, stuff like that, is nice for us stubborn old knob twisters and tape winders, I use the programs that I use for Sound design editing, putting tracks together, and post. That’s it.the the more simple and straight foreward the better.

OOps My Mistake, No Vst Supprt, Still, I’ve got other programs for that, For freeware, Try Wavosaur....Vst support up the wazoo...So Just add the fx before import, or export then re-imposrt. No Problem.. Still Looks beutiful, And the Multimedia with no learning curve or convoluted nonsense is great. If It’s easy, Works, Sounds good, That’s all that matters, and getting the job done of course.

I am VERY interested in this release as I cannot re-map my “My Documents” folder (I’m in a corporate environment) and have thus encountered the AppOpts module error. I will happily pay the $25 (or thereabouts) price for the PRO version when it comes out, so please keep me posted.

Yeah you guys, get hopping, quit reading this forum and get to work!! :->

Posted by cochisewolf  on  Friday, April 24, 2009  at  08:24 PM

I am impressed!  This program is incredible and free at that.  Although I have yet to see it, the Pro version is well beyond an excellent deal.  You guys definitely deserve some recognition.  I would only suggest you show it off at the next AES, NAMM, or the National Association of Broadcasters, if you haven’t already.  I can’t wait for the new releases.  I am so glad I found your product.  Good luck with future success!!!

duke, duke, duke, duke of…

Mid May now… LOL!  I have been waiting 12 months for the “My Documents” fix so another month or so is no biggie.  I didnt realise there was a Pro version.  The price is nice for either version.  Great job guys and gals.

Thanks everyone for all the comments and we appreciate your on-going patience. In order to put out the release that we want to, we’ve had to carry out some further testing. However, we do promise that we are almost there and will be in touch very, very soon!

Thanks again!

hello, i have a problem with this: i already rendered three mixes and why are they all like 50mb-60mb each? can you tell me how i can shorten it to regular size - 6mb.

Posted by  on  Wednesday, May 20, 2009  at  10:48 PM

Hi DJ CRUZ-ER

I would recommend saving your mix as a wmv and not a wav and bringing down the audio codec to 128mbs. It also depends on how big and how many files that you are mixing to start with.

We have a video tutorials on saving your mix and they are available at:

http://www.trakax.com/software/support/create_a_quick_mix/

Thanks

With no adware or spyware...and 100 % free...I still can not believe it.  This is a great program.  Like Mixmeister but more fun and much cheaper!  When I see this program in full flight, I scratch my head thinking “How can they do this for free?” I will strongly support the upcoming PRO version and purchase it.  Thr price is nothing. I will see it as a donation more than a purchase price.  Cause you have to pay at least 5 times as muh for a program that does just some of the thing Trakax does.  The automatic crossfade funtion is gonna be sweet.  But I do have a question.  If I have a song with intro that i do not want to be part of a mix, is their a funtion on here where i can view that track and slice that intro off ao that when the beats are mixed, it will be flawless?

Posted by  on  Saturday, May 30, 2009  at  11:28 PM

I can’t wait for the PRO version! I love TrakAx and having it has made making AMV’s so much more fun. When the PRO version comes out, I will support it and buy it right away.

Posted by  on  Friday, June 05, 2009  at  03:21 PM

Hi everyone - thanks for all the really kind comments. It is really encouraging as we struggle here to get the release out and as always we deeply appreciate your patience and on-going support.

@DJMRNelson - in regards to your last point, you can select / edit the piece of audio you want to use in the current version. Rather than slicing off the intro, in the trakKutter / track properties area, either highlight or use the loop ruler to select the area of the track you would like to use in your mix - in this way, you can get rid of the intro section you don’t want to use. Feel free to contact us on the forum and we can post some screen shots.

We will be making a firm release date available this week. We realise we have been promising this update for some time, but have now entered End Game and are now just tidying up some last minute issues.

We will be in touch later this week and thanks again,

Catriona - trakax.com

The new version supports both Hi-Res and Wide Screen.

You can export your mix using the H.264 codec, which gives great HD resolution.

Thanks!

I love using TrakAxPC because of it’s simplicity and quality of end production cuts. Can’t wait for the new version as I too would like a more flexible approach to library location. As my library of music grows, I am changing their locations to accomodate space around my drives. A new remap tool would be pretty clutch to keep the playlists alive when needed after the source mp3 location has changed.

A question that I have, will the new export options be compatible or like the enhanced apple podcast format? This is the one that is created with Quicktime Pro or Ablenton Live or the Mac’s garageband software?

I would like to be able to create Apple Enhanced Podcasts directly from trakAxPC software on Windows OS.

Will this be possible with TrakAxPC or is Apple in the way still of their own propreatary crap?

You said back in June 08, 2009 that you would have a firm release date on the new version. Any idea when this will happen?

Thanks in advance,
Dj Arity

Posted by  on  Monday, June 22, 2009  at  04:32 PM

Hi DJ Arity,

thanks for your message.

We support the .m4a codec in the new version of trakAxPC (Pro Version only - $24.95), which is the codec required for Enhanced Apple Podcasts.

We also now support a wide range of saving options: as well as .m4a, we now have H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, AAC etc. We think the new version will have all the standard file formats that a user will need, including the ability to save as HD.

We have also included a Remap Tool to allow you to locate files in your mix that may have changed location. When you open your mix, if a file location has changed, a window will pop open allowing you to find the file in the new location.

We are currently preparing the application for release, finalising support documentation and all the other things that get left to the last minute. We are just there and hope to have this out as soon as we possibly can.

Thanks for all your interest and we will be in touch.

Catriona,

Thanks so much for the information. That is great news about the .m4a format which is something I really wanted in the new version. I will with no doubt go for the Pro version. I need it Yesterday!

Again thanks for the information provided and look forward to this new version of TrakAxPC.

Please 2 ideas

Why when we use the micro or Webcam recorder we can’t get it directly on a track at the cursor line ? Is it possible now ? Easiest way for a correct mic comment…

And Why not with the new PinP function (i hope usable with the Video Recorder and with automatic placement at the cursor line) to get a text reader incorporated (Prompter) ?

Thans a lot

Appreciate that, thanks!

Hi SCHOLASTIQUE,

After reading your query, I have uploaded an image (see link below) of recording in a narration / video while using a text prompt in the new Pro Version.

http://trakax.com/images/uploads/recording_narrations_pro.jpg

Your recording is not placed directly on the timeline, but by playing your accompanying text / video etc. in the mixing screen while you record in, you can easily judge your narration speed, timing etc.

After you have made your recording you can then place it in the mixing screen at the appropriate area in the timeline. If you would like to use the Collage (PiP) functionality, you simply adjust the sizing of the videos accordingly.

Hope this answers you query, but let me know if you would like any further clarification.

Thanks again for your comment,

Catriona

This is a good looking software, a “must have” for any beginner into music or video making, this would be a very powerful tool even for more experienced musicians if would have MIDI recording/editing possibilities and VST/ VSTi support.

Anyway, great job.

Hi - thanks for the message. You can upload your videos directly to YouTube from the application. However, if you would like to share your videos on other social networks, Export your video and then upload it through the internet. For more information on Exporting your mix, please see the following tutorial:

First i would like to thank you for this tool. I have a problem, when i tried to upload video through this application to you tube. It takes more time than the normal upload. I have good connection speed. Does this tool will take time or i should change any other settings in the tool. I dont know where i am missing out.

Posted by high speed internet  on  Wednesday, January 27, 2010  at  08:14 PM

Hi - Thanks for your message. When you first click “Upload to YouTube”, you video must be rendered and saved before the upload process begins. The time required to render your video will depend on the length of your video and the output file size (YouTube HD, HQ etc.).

Once the video is rendered, the video then begins to upload and again the time required will depend on the points above, so you can think of this as a two step process - render and then upload.

You can minimise the YouTube upload window and continue working on other projects / applications and allow the render and upload process to take place in the background.

I hope this makes sense to you and please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

Many thanks,

Catriona
