Hi
I am making some video editing workshops in france, and there is a real lack of good free video software.
Trakax seems very interesting feature-wise, and it remembers me a bit of Vegas when i tried it.
But atm, i can’t yet work with Trakax, because the supporting of english language only may be a showstopper for non-enlgish-natives video-editing-newbies.
So my FR would be : language packs !
wink

Good luck with Trakax, and thanks for making it alive !

Hi snk2,
Merci de nous avoir contacter. Nous aprécions votre rétroaction.

Our plan currently is to get as many users as possible using the application, respond to their feedback and suggestions and tweak the application where necessary.
Thereafter we plan to localise the offering for a broad range of languages.

Thanks again,

C
(PS. Allez les bleus for World Cup - after beating Ireland, we’re up for France now!)

I’d like to see the ability to add credits and simple overlays, much in the manner of Windows Movie Maker. The program has a simple library of premade credit styles and allows you to adjust the background color, font, font color of each. The overlays are varying kinds of text or graphical overlays or insets, but none is too complex. I really feel it would make the program complete, for my needs at least.

I’d love to see something of this nature in trakAx. If it already exists, I apologize (and please point me to it).

Hey Chad,

thanks for taking the time to send in your feedback - much appreciated.

We agree with your suggestion and this is something that we’re currently looking at. We plan to have this feature included for the next release. We will keep everyone updated on the timeframe for this.

Many thanks again.

Hi,

I have been using this software for days and have to say its amazing (only using the audio part for now). I used mixmeister in the past but found it not flexible enough/too complicated for my needs.

I love this software and plan on sticking with it,and i have a few suggestions and improvements, based on my experience with cooledit pro, and various other software. Whichever feature is easiest to apply to the next release, if any, would be great.

Interface / usability :
- a playlist to drop files in from the explorer window so i can reuse them.
- automatically stop playing when it reaches end of mix - doesn’t do that yet.
- a lock button to lock shifting of songs = for example - when adjusting envelopes.
- be able to hold shift (like in photoshop) when adjusting one point on envelopes to have the envelope line before that point automatically “click” to pre-set diagonals (not one diagonal but multiple levels set by programmers for quick smooth increase in volume) increase and decrease or 100% vertical (ie. / or \ or |)
- clicking undo will reset my view to the cursor - it would be ideal to stay in same view (for example i am adjusting volume envelope on a track highly zoomed in and make a mistake and click undo - bam it jumped to all the at the end of the mix where i stopped it)
- Hard to select the skinny volume/pan red/green lines without missing and selecting the whole song- then the song shifts.  - can make the selection area bigger or lines thicker.
- A textbox to enter a custom bpm # in the properties box of songs (currently have /2 x2 and x1)
- When zooming in and out (using bottom right buttons or scrollwheel + ctrl) it always re-shifts to the cursor which may not be necessarily in the section of my mix i am looking at - it would be ideal to point with my mouse and zoom to that section i am viewing using my scrollwheel or - if using buttons on bottom right - zoom to center of my view selection - i find it hard to adjust previously played songs when the cursor is not in the current view and i have to scroll back manually since i tried to zoom in and it reseted to the further away to the right cursor.
- The font seems too big on the left-individual track side, i find myself resizing now and then to see which song is which. (on 1024x768)
- clicking maximize track, maximizes the track way too much and if i re-adjust it, and click it again, it doesn’t remember my setting.
- * A big pet peeve: my mouse’s scrollwheel doesn’t work in the explorer window, the track window and basically everywhere. - would like to use scrollwheel to adjust left and right on mix.
- Is it possible to change the explorer view to have a smaller tree on top and “auto-scanned-compatible” files in the currently selected folder (mp3,wma etc) in a separate window on bottom? - the current tree view really slows me down.
- A big pet peeve: the scrollbar on the bottom could be more darker and “outstanding/bigger” to show the position where i am at in my song - it takes me a few seconds to realize where the scrollbar is because its small and blends in. - kinda small to drag too.
- Be able to “single-click-drag-select” a section of the tracks, individually or as a whole - should readjust by itself if i zoom in and out. - this way i can preview a section of mix quickly and not worry about playing and stopping
- When a select a song from a mix (the dotted rectangles rotate around) and press play - i would like it to play only that song from beginning to end - ie - one click solo smile - possibly loop also - this way i can adjust length while it loops - maybe
- Detailed “split-segment” option (ie by time?) in the right click menu along with simply split segment - sometimes i am zoomed in way to far to see where i am cutting.

General:
- Have global options where i can adjust default track height the next time i open the program - since i like the volume and pan envelopes always showing smile
-*have an option for adjusting amount of “beats” scrolled by scrollwheel by my mouse - like the amount of line scrolled option in window’s mouse options.

Knobs:
- Having colored knobs for volume, (and tempo?) beside the pan knob instead of bar = increased workspace.
- The knob beside the “tracks” title for the whole mix is hard to control with a mouse.
- maybe move the time beside the knob to the top right/make it bigger? - seems small.

Almost done.

Love to see these big improvements:
- Like the volume, and pan envelopes - have a tempo envelope! - this would be amazing for transitioning from one song to another!(ie at end of a song i slowly increase the tempo through 10 seconds before starting my next song)
- Have a window that would contain a simple database of my own made loops in one place, possibly in a “loops” folder in trakax. - ability to add your own loops to this window from the explorer, drag and drop from trakkutter or one of the mixing tracks for later use, and ready for immediate insertion into your mix (kinda like a loop-playlist) - it will come in VERY Handy. - no need to browse everywhere when trying to find a loop.
- Have a button which recognizes which songs are selected (by ctrl and selecting or if none - all of mix) and be able to apply multiple crossfading effects( ie. slow tempo to song then start playing the next one, sound effect, simple volume crossfade, pan one song out to left and new song in from right etc) i know you can do this manually with pan and volume (i have done it) but its cumbersome doing it for each song.
-Or if the tracks are one after another:something which i have never seen yet is the ability to add your own sound effect from a wav file when transitioning from song to another! will be highly useful! since i don’t like making seperate tracks for each 2 sec sound effect, and want to add my own sound effects to the trakax “sound effects library” - which could probably be a mini window that would hold sound effects to be played while transitioning or jumping from one song to another. - this would be separate from the pre-configured and set-volume transition/pan transitions by trakax (which are macros and not wav files)

Hi Djamq

First all of we would like to thank you for taking the time to write such detailed suggestions and feedback on TrakAx. We find this feedback extremely useful when developing the next version of the application. It’s with users like you we can hopefully deliver an exciting, detailed and powerful application.

We are currently going through your suggestions with the development team and there is a lot of great feedback that we will try and implement into the next version.

On your point about tempo:
- A text box to enter a custom bpm in the properties box of songs (currently have /2 x2 and x1)

You can input a custom bpm tempo of a audio loop in the mixing screen. Unfortunately it is not on the whole track but on individual pieces of audio.

First of all place the loop in the mixing screen.
Right click on the audio loop and select properties (see attachment)
In the properties window input the your new desired BPM and select close (see attachments)
Then click the unlock tempo button button in the track name section (see attachments)
The Track will now play at the new bpm that you inputed.

I hope this helps your needs.

Again, We really appreciate your feedback and the TrakAx team will be sitting down to discuss these great suggestions with a view of incorporating them into future releases.

Best regards
Cormac
The TrakAx Team.

I’ve just downloaded your software and by all accounts it looks very cool.  I haven’t tried it out yet but I definitely will.  It looks a bit like Sonys’ ACID Xpress 5.0 which I have (but rarely use)....only with video which is totally cool only a little geared towards audio newbies who are content to just drag and drop loops onto a timeline and call it original music.
My big three wishlist items: VST implementation, MIDI and a Mac version! I’m a Pro Tools user who does most of my music stuff on a Mac.  I do work with a PC program called Luna which has VST use available in it. I never got my hands on AVID free DV for the Mac and if you did a Mac version it could fill that void nicely for a lot of us Mac users.

Dear Geniuses:
I really don’t know how you keep this program afloat, it is so amazing and full-featured, but it is free. Best on the Internet, in my opinion. But, I found three major issues, and one minor issue.

1. There is no multi-track rendering option. When I have a multi-tracked song that I want to export or render to a sound file, or a few selected tracks that I need to get, I have no choice except to mute the unwanted tracks and record trakAxe’s playback with a screen recorder, or render each individual track and combine the files. Quite painful.

2. MIDI support. Midi recording support would be fantastic, but even midi file importing and editing would be great as well. I really can’t find a midi sequencer comparable to what this program can do to normal audio.

3. I see a gaping hole in this program which can be filled with a virtual sound board, or virtual mixer to be used as if there was a real sound mixer in front of me.

4. The scrollbar color at the bottom is WAY too close to the rest of the bar.

I believe that maybe i am missing something about the track rendering issue, because I don’t know how a finished mix could be exported to an audio file without this function. But, maybe not…

I thank you for reading my very first posting, and I hope that this program will work even better than it is now for me as it is already doing for most of its users.
