1. A different default recordings directory. The default on my machine was My Documents\High Andes\trakaxPC\Recordings (i think)
Something like My Documents\Recordings or “My Recordings” would be easier i think. Im running XP Pro Service pack 3 btw.

2. A “change transition/effect” option when you right click a transition/effect in the mixer.

So you dont have to delete the existing one and insert a new one.

Hi Cormac, thanks a lot for your software and the work ye put in,
the program is fantastic! Thats all my suggestions for now but will attack you with more soon!

Very proud that its an irish program too btw! wink

Cheers

Hi Smithy

Thanks for the kind words, it is appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback on the My Recordings, I will pass your suggestion on the development team.

In regards to the transition/effect option. We have been working on these for the new release and we now have this suggestion implemented. The user can now right click on an transition to change it to another one quickly. Also it much easier to place multiple effects into the same position in the timeline. When it is double clicked the effect parameters will appear.

We are working very hard to get this new release out very soon.

Thanks again Smithy for the feedback and kind words. We appreciate it here in Dublin smile

Cheers Cormac

Ello there!

First of all, thanks for making such a fantastic piece of kit - it’s head and shoulders above every other free video editor I’ve used, and gives quite a few commercial ones a good kicking smile

Most of the things I signed up to find out about already appear to have been addressed for the next update, but there’s one outstanding thing that I’m not sure is covered. Will the new grouping options allow an audio track to be locked to its accompanying video track so that they move in sync when dragging? If so, could it be configured such that when dragging, both video and audio will stop as soon as one or the other encounters another clip on the timeline? If you multi-select and drag currently and one of the clips hits an existing one first, it’ll spring back to the original place whilst allowing the other to drop so they go out of sync.

Minor moan though, keep up the good work. I’m already recommending the software to the young people I work with through the youth service, and we’re all waiting for the next version with interest smile

EDIT: Just spotted a couple of other minor things.

- Would it be possible to support PNG transparency for creating overlays?

- If the above is possible, is there likely to be way to reorder tracks on the timeline by dragging vertically?

- Could the control buttons on the track headerings be on the same row, so that seeing all of them is not dependent on the height of the track? Maybe a vertical brightness slider might help with this?

Hi Kuang

Thank you very much for the feedback and suggestions it is very much appreciated.

In the new version, when a piece of video is brought in, the audio and video will be locked so when you drag or move one the other will be dragged/ or moved with it, therefore always staying in sync. You can easily remove this locking by simple command.

We have also implemented in the new release that it will either stop or you can automatically blend/crossfade with another piece of media on the same track. I think users will find this a nice, useful feature.

We will not be implementing PNG transparency for next release unfortunately, but thank you for the suggestion and I will pass it on to the development team for discussion.

The new release will allow you to reorder the tracks by dragging them vertically and we have this implemented.

On the last suggestion regarding some control buttons on the track title, I will pass this on to the dev team and we will discuss implementing this suggestion.

We are working extremely hard in getting the new release out to our users, and hope it have it out very soon!!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write to us with your suggestions, it is always brilliant to get great feedback and suggestions.

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards
Cormac

Firstly, Thanks for an excellent piece of software.
I’ve been making short AV’s of images and audio and find it very good and extremely flexible.
It’s amazing what can be done with mixing the various transitions

One minor problem with producing AV’s is that the program defaults to 10 seconds image length when loading slides, this is generally much to long for an AV sequence so you have to shorten every segment, which is very time consuming.

It would be nice if you could preset the time to a custom length, that way you would only need to adjust the timing for odd slide.

More power to your elbow.

Hi Pictron

Thanks for the kind words and suggestion. It is appreciated.

We have been talking about this in the office with the dev team. We think you are correct about the image length and it will be changed for the next release. I don’t think we will have time to do a preset for image length for the next release (thanks for the suggestion though, it is a good one) but we will be shortening the length of the default time. What would you consider to be a good default?

Thanks for taking the time to write, it is great to get feedback from users.
Best regards
Cormac

Hi Cormac,

Thanks for the rapid reply, that’s what I call really fast customer support.

As regards time length, most AV makers that I’ve spoken to in the past tend to be of the opinion that, generally, slides should not be more than about five seconds, obviously some need to be longer if they are closely synched to the music track and some will be shorter, such as title and credits segments, but five seconds should be about right for the majority of slides.
The advantage is that we would not need to adjust every slide as at present.

Thanks again,

Ivan

Hi Pictron

Thanks for getting back to me. We have been banding this about in the office and we believe 5 seconds to be the right default for an image with no audio associated as well. Thanks for the suggestion and this will be implemented for the next version.

Thanks again and best regards
Cormac

This has already been addressed for me but I’ll post it anyway. I would like to see TrakAx be able to handle MTS files. I know they’re a proprietary Sony file and they probably want outrageous royalties but I’d be willing to pay extra for that feature. Maybe it could be a paid add on or something.

As it stands I have to use Vegas to convert the files (a 90 dollar program that I don’t use to edit videos because, well, I use TrakAx grin). Most programs don’t do a very good job of converting these files, a lot are free but aren’t even worth that.

I just discovered TrakAx while looking for alternatives to ACID and Sony Vegas, and have been toying with it for some time. Seems to me like a decent substitute for ACID.

I guess I’m used to using ACID, but one of the features I’d like to see that doesn’t seem to exist is the ability to replace one track’s sound file with another by dropping another sound file onto it, instead of making a new track and then copy-pasting.

Also, it would be nice to be able to manually change an entire segment’s pitch by using the +/- keys.

EDIT: And, perhaps, change the name of each track, though I have a feeling that one was already suggested.

Hi Boxtop

Thanks for writing in your suggestions, we appreciate it.

I will go through in each suggestion:

1)I guess I’m used to using ACID, but one of the features I’d like to see that doesn’t seem to exist is the ability to replace one track’s sound file with another by dropping another sound file onto it, instead of making a new track and then copy-pasting.

In the current version you are able to grab and move a file segment and place it on another track but In the new version you are able to drop an Audio file on top of another audio file. You are also able to create automatic crossfades of audio and video clips on the same track.

2)Also, it would be nice to be able to manually change an entire segment’s pitch by using the +/- keys.

This is a interesting suggestion but you can just change the pitch using the pitch envelope. The envelope controls the level of the pitch used. It is something we can look in to for future releases.

EDIT: And, perhaps, change the name of each track, though I have a feeling that one was already suggested.

3) definitley a great suggestion and something we are looking into.

Thanks again for writing in with your feedback, we appreciate it and are working flat out to get this new release extremely soon!!!!!!!

Best regards
Cormac

I haven’t tried it out yet but I definitely will.  It looks a bit like Sonys’ ACID Xpress 5.0 which I have (but rarely use)....only with video which is totally cool only a little geared towards audio newbies who are content to just drag and drop loops onto a timeline and call it original music.

Regards

Gunner

Hi MechanicalPri

It is hard to know what is happening without seeing the particular avi. Is it only happening on these certain avi’s or is all files on your PC? If it not too much trouble and not too big can you send me one of the avi’s that is causing the issue and we can have a look at it here and see if it an problem on our part. My e-mail is

Thank you and best regards

Hi Branton

I was curious when I read your forum post whether there was a quick solution to what you are trying to do. As per Cormac’s email, we do not provide a specific blurring mask tool or a motion tracking tool that you could apply to blur the number plate, as per the TV shows etc.

However, if it was a relatively short clip and you wanted to simply prevent some element from being shown, you could implement the fix that I have applied in the video below. Don’t get me wrong - it is pretty quick and dirty, but could be a quick solution if you needed:
