I installed the program and when I try to run it I get an error dialog that says “Failed to initialise the AppOpts module.  Must terminate the application.”
How can I fix this?

Hi Pasht

Thank you for downloading TrakaxPC.
We are currently addressing the issue your are having with your install.
I have a couple of question about your machine and Operating system:

What version of windows are you running, XP or Vista?
If you are running Vista , what version is it ? Basic, Home Premium, Business or Ulimate?

If you are running XP, has it got service pack 2 installed? You can check this by right clicking on the MyComputer icon in windows explorer.

What computer processor has your machine got? Again, You can check this by right clicking on the MyComputer icon in windows explorer.

At what stage in the install do you get the error? Do you even see the Trakax installer?
Do you see any dialog boxes?

Are you logged on as a user on your machine or an Administrator. If you are a logged on as a user can you log off and log in as the admin and then install the application. This might solve the problem you are experiencing.

If you have any more problems or questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards
Cormac

Hello,

The PC is running XP SP2.  Processor is an Intel E6600 Core2 Duo 2.4GHz.

The program installs just fine, this error pops up when trying to run the application itself; immediately after double-clicking the desktop icon for trakAx is when the error comes up.  I installed trakAx on a friend’s PC to see what startup should look like.  Mine doesn’t even show the splash screen, it just immediately throws that error.

I am logged into the PC as a domain administrator with full rights.

Hi Pasht

The Developers have created a small exe file in order to see if they can get to the bottom of the issue that you are having. Just run the exe file that is attached to this post and then copy and paste the readout into a mail, text or word document. If you can e-mail me with the readout at that would be great. Hopefully with the readout the dev team will have a better understanding what is going on.

Thank you and if you have any more questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards

Hi,

Thanks for your message. Apologies, Cormac replied to Pasht on this issue off the forum.
This is a known issue and will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime, please find below a work around:

ISSUE: Failed to initialise AppOpts Module error.
FIX / WORKAROUND: This occurs when your ‘My Documents’ Folder is mapped to a network drive.
To fix this map your ‘My Documents’ folder to your local machine and not a network drive.
STATUS: Will be fixed in next release.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information or assistance.

Thanks for your interest in trakAxPC.

Hi there,

I came across Trakax today and really liked the look of it for using in an educational context in a Scottish secondary school. We study Multimedia and incorporate elements of digital audio and video so it seemed like a great piece of software. Can you confirm that, in terms of licencing, it’s ok to put on 20 machines for 20 pupils to use at once?

Secondly, we had the AppOpts issue occur too. Since our machines automatically map pupils’ documents folders to a network drive on our file server, I don’t know of an easy way round this and I don’t want to stop pupils saving onto the network and I don’t think they’d have the permissions to change it anyway! Is there any workaround that you know of or do you have any idea when a new version may be out?

Many thanks for what looks like an exciting program,

Tony

Unfortunately, we do not have a workaround for this issue at the moment. We are working on the new release at the moment which will have a workaround. We are working hard on getting this release out and it should be out very soon!!

I will PM you when the when we have released the new version.

Hi Tony

Sorry I din’t get back you on your licencing query.

Yes it is okay to do this. TrakAxPC is a free to use application so you can put it on as many machines as you feel free.

Best regards

Thanks, Cormac.  I just downloaded trakAx and am very excited to try it.  I had the same problem because I have “My Documents” on a network drive.  So I’m glad to see your workaround and look forward to using the program.  Great support!

As a hint to others with the same problem, I changed the location of “My Documents” back to my local machine.  But the only thing in there now is a shortcut over to my network location where I actually keep all my files.  This way trakAx works, but I keep all my files on the network where they are sure to be backed up routinely.

Any idea when a new version is planned for release which might fix this?

Thanks so much!

Dan

Hi There TrakAx Admins

I have been patient since last March 2008 awaiting the Fix for this problem.  I have had the program but its just like window shopping.  I know its there but I just cant use it.  Shame!!!!

I sure hope it is soon cos I am really tired of using the limited options Acid Express free version.

I am awaiting in anticipation for a new experience in looping for my drums tracks and other samples.

You are doing such a great job here.

Hi, I have been using trakax pc for over 7-8 months after installation. However due to recently resetting my laptop I have had to redownload the software to install it again. Whereas, now once I have installed it and when I double click on the trakax pc icon on my desktop it starts to load but freezes on the section “initialising video transitions’’ and then comes up with a microsoft error report which i have frequently dealt with.Could someone please assist me with this problem.
Regards, Farhan

PS: I am also attaching a image of the problem.

Hi Farhan

Thanks for downloading TrakAxPC.

I wrote to you yesterday to your e-mail. Maybe I went into your junk/spam mail.

We have seen this issue before on some machines that are running other programs that are using direct X and it could be causing a conflict.

You can try and start the application in default mode and it will not load up any previous files that might be stored in the cache.

Before clicking on the trakaxPC icon, hold down and keep down the F8 button and your keyboard.

While holding down the f8 button click on the TrakAxPC Icon.

You should get the following message: (see screenshot)

Click yes.

This will launch the program in its default state and might help solve your problem.
I hope this helps and please do not hesitate to get back to me if your problem continues.

Best regards

Cormac
