I just found your program and it looks awesome. I was just wondering if it’s possible or will be possible to render/export audio to mp3. I do some audio editing for the web and need mp3 files.

Thanks for the awesome and free product.

Hi and thanks for your comments.

At the moment we do not support MP3. For us to include MP3 in TrakAxPC would require a licence fee charge to be paid to the licencing authority. This is a free to use software application and therefore not possible to subsidise a licenced format from MPEG LA and VIA licencing. We would not allow any unlicensed products to be released under the TrakAx brand.

You can render your mixes to wav and wma only.

If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

best regards

Hello!!!
Sorry to insist in the MP3 export function, but i have to ask if by using a free encoder like LAME ( http://lame.sourceforge.net/about.php ) would make it possible?

Some softwares can’t distribute the MP3 encoding software because of legal stuff but they have the ready to work with it.

Would it be possible for TrakAx to do the same???

Thanks for your time!

Hi NEO

Windows provides decoding for MP3 but does not provide encoding facilities. A MP3 royalty fee must be paid to mp3 licencing authority if a software application allows this functionality. This is a free application and we cannot include or subsidize the royalty payments that would be due.

Why don’t you just put your mixes into itunes? it automaticly converts them to mp3 (unless something new has happened in the last few updates)

How does Audacity do it then?  It’s a free program that has the ability to work with MP3s, but you need to download the encoder yourself & tell Audacity where it is.  Audacity can then use the dll to encode mp3s.

Hi Pickle

I can’t speak for audacity, but our legal advice is that the use of an MP3 encoder requires the payment of a royalty fee to the licensing authority. This is not an inconsiderable sum and as trakAxPC is a high volume free to use application we cannot bear this additional cost on top of the development and support costs that we already incur. We may in the near future offer a version, at a nominal cost, which supports mp3, aac, m4a encoding and decoding. There is also licensing obligations for the use these formats. You can check out the licensing requirements for all formats at mp3 licensing, VIA licensing and MPEG LA

Best regards
