Splash screen crash (Unable to run)

Hi, I’ve recently downloaded and installed latest free version of trakAxPC. As I try to run it, it displays the splash screen for a moment and crashes with this error:

“trackAxPc.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

It appears to be in the “Initialising Video Transitions” stage just before the crash. I’ve tried reinstalling the program and restarting my computer to no avail. I’m running Windows XP SP3.

Does anybody have any suggestions on solving this problem? I appreciate any help and I’ll be glad to provide more info if needed. It’s a shame because I was really interested in trying this program..

Hi cinotL,

thanks for your message and sorry that you are having some issues.

If you have Windows Movie Maker installed on your PC, can you see whether this launches for you?

Can you also check what version of DirectX you are running (trakAxPC requires DirectX 9.0c or later)
To check which version of DirectX is on your system: click the Start menu, then choose Run. In the box type dxdiag and press Enter on your keyboard. A new Window will appear and your version of DirectX will be listed at the bottom.

Once we have this information, we should be able to send over some info to get you up and running.

Thanks,

Catriona

Thanks for the reply, Windows Movie Maker runs for a moment then crashes as well with the same error message as in my first post. It’s been known to do this for a while.

My DirectX version is DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).

Hi - thanks for your message.

The Error that you are receiving is an issue with your PC and not with the trakAxPC application (most likely a QEdit error). Until this issue is fixed, you will experience the same issue with almost all video editing applications. The solutions below are for Windows Movie Maker, but if you get this PC issue resolved, this will also work for trakAxPC.

I have done some research on some on the QEdit.Dll errors and have attached some solutions below:

Option 1 - Rename Intervideo
See: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-moviemaker/507896.htm

I’ve seen people run into this problem with applications installed from InterVideo. (This isn’t a bug in InterVideo’s application - it’s a Microsoft bug it’s just that InterVideo
applications can install a bunch of DirectShow filters). In this case you would go to your “C:\Program Files\InterVideo” directory and rename “InterVideo” to something like “TempInterVideo”. Then start MovieMaker. Once it has launched, close it down and rename “TempInterVideo” back to “InterVideo”.

Option 2 - Update your codec Pack
See http://tinyurl.com/ybqkf7h

Some Users who are experiencing this QEdit issue find that by completely updating their codec pack they can overcome this issue. Installing K-Lite Doce Pack - http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/ and the VLC Media Player can work - http://filehippo.com/download_vlc/

There is a site called PapaJohn - http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Issues-Acceleration-and-Codecs.html - which deals with the most common Windows Movie Maker crashes which may also help.

I think that Option 1 should solve the issue you are experiencing. If you are still having issues, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time and we will look into finding another solution.

Many thanks,

Catriona.

Thanks for the help. Both methods unfortunately do not work for me, however I was reminded of an old trick I used which was to rename/delete QEdit.dll in my system32 folder then very quickly start WMM. This happened to work for trakAxPC as well.

It’s a bit of a bother but I guess I have no choice.

Hey - thanks for your message. This is a pain - if you do a quick search for QEdit, there are literally thousands of Windows users with this issue.

The PapaJohn site - http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Issues-Acceleration-and-Codecs.html - is definitely most comprehensive site I could find with potential solutions to this error.

Hopefully you are sorted now, but please let me know if we can assist you in any way.

Thanks,

Catriona
