I did some searching and didn’t find any clear guidance for this, so I was wondering if anyone could offer me some feedback. I have done a bunch of interviews over the phone and they sound ok, but not as good as I would like. Is there recommended audio cleanup effects, tasks that you recommend be done for recordings like this.
Oh, by the way, I just started using this and bought it within an hour as I was blown away at how much better this is than the competition and although I am no expert I have tried extensively quite a few video editing software solutions.
Many thanks for your message and your kind words - appreciated.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - we’ve been under a bit of pressure today!
In regards to cleaning up your audio, we do not have a dedicated “Noise Reduction” filter. I did a quick check on the net there and there are quite alot of Noise Reduction DirectX filters which work with trakAxPC, but most of them are over $50 (some over $150 / $300), so not sure if you need them that much and unfortunately I couldn’t find a free one or one that allowed a free trial without an audio watermark.
I have found that playing around with the “Blue Cat Triple EQ” effect can really help with the quality of the audio. You have to play around with the levels to find the optimum level for your track. I have put together a short video below to show you how to do this:
You may find that after playing around with the effect, the volume may be slightly too low. You can up the track volume in the track toolbar. If it is still too low, set the Max volume to 200%. To do this, right-click on the volume bar(View Image).
If you find a effect level that you’re really happy with, simply copy and paste the effect onto the other audio tracks to save yourself having to set it manually each time (View Image).
Just in relation to the video above, you may find it difficult to hear the audio in the background, but hopefully it will give you good idea of what to do and try out.
Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback and I have already recommended this project to many based on my initial experiences.
I did have one other strange issue, two times I have imported an audio file into a video mix, just pictures with the audio and it seems to be chopping off the end. It really is a bit baffling as it has happened several times where after about 45 minutes it cuts off the rest. The only way I could make it work was by getting the unedited version of the file and editing it all in TrakAx. But I can put it on the kutter board below, or whatever that is called, but when I copy that and paste it above the end is chopped off and all I have up there is pictures that extend way past 45 minutes and I am pasting on a new track. Thoughts? Maybe there is a better way to import as I am dragging and dropping it. And/or copying and pasting whole segment from below to main mix. I guess one thing I didn’t try was exporting the mix from below and then copying that new file I create in above.
Thanks again! You have saved me a lot of time. David
I’m not sure if I fully understand the problem so I was just wondering if I could ask you a few questions. Are you dragging and dropping an individual audio file or does the file contain audio and video (photos). Secondly, do you have a loop region selected?
If it is just an audio file, the problem may lie with the global tempo. If you drag in an audio file and then unlock the track from the global tempo, the audio track should be fully displayed. The video below explains how to unlock your audio file from the Global Tempo.
I hope this solves the problem, but if you have any further issues, please do not hesitate in contacting me
Great, I will try that as yes, drag and drop. Last night I actually just created a new MP3 from the kutter below, exported the mix and then drag and dropped into the new mix I was making and that worked fine, so at the very least that is an easy work around, but I will try what you mention.
For free audio clean up software, can i suggest Audacity (for noise reduction/ amplification) and Levelator (this puts anything and everything at the same volume levels, handy if you’ve got Skype recordings with uneven volumes)

That’s what I have been using for noise reduction in my audios. I have a bunch of audios that have “electricity hums” in the background.
This solution works very well but it is kind of cumbersome to paste audio to a new mix, export audio to mp3, open it up with Audacity, do the noise removal (which is really easy to do), and then import the clean audio back to my original mix.
I’m sure that TrakaxPC, with all those “Blue Cat effects” can do this.
If I only knew how to do it. ;(
Is there a video somewhere that shows how you can remove humming noise directly from TrakaxPC just as easy as you do it from Audacity? That will be a real time saver for me
