Having the ability to pop the video preview window out of the program and have it run on a separate monitor would be a very helpful feature. I run my workstation with 2 monitors; my main video editing monitor has a resolution of 2560x1440 while my secondary monitor runs 1680x1280. I f i was able to pop the video preview out of the program and have it run separately on the secondary monitor it would be very helpful, as well as free up real estate on my editing monitor. Are there any plans to allow such a thing?

Hi robrowald

thanks for the post.

If you have set up a dual screen monitor, output to the second monitor is available from the drop down menu on the Video Output panel. If you are not seeing this option, just enlarge your Video Output screen slightly. You must set up the dual screen mode from the Control Panel / Graphic Properties before this option is available.

For more information on using the Video Output screen, please see the video below:

(Video too small? Click on the YouTube watermark to view a larger version in HD from the YouTube website).

We also have a wiki on this topic with a video included also.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks!

I have that option, but the video window is tiny, and if you stretch it it looks terrible. I was think more of a full size video window, so that if I’m working on a 720p video i see it at full resolution. Perhaps I am just missing a check box or option somewhere but teh video preview window only shows as a small sized output.

Hi Robrowald

I think I might understand what is happening.

When you preview a file in the Media Browser, you will view the file in the quality it was created in. When a video is brought into the Mixing Screen for editing and mixing, we display the video in a 320x240 resolution for maximum PC performance. This is in order for users with any spec machines to be able to mix very large files (both resolution and frame rate) comfortably. When you export your file to MP4 H.264 level 4 or 5, you will notice that the quality of the file will be superb and very little quality has been lost.

I presume the video looks small because you have the Stretch to Video Frame button turned off the video output window. (see screenshot)

If you turn off this button you will see the video in the clear 320x240 resolution. It will look small but clear.

Another option is view your video in 640 x 480 or higher in the Mixing Screen..

You can do this by clicking on: Options/ Mixer Configuration ( see screenshot)
and in video mixing engine performance area: Select Medium or Low Performance:

NOTE: this option will require a reboot of the application and it will re-parse all the media that you are using. Also if you do not have high spec machine it might effect the playing of your video mix in the mixing screen. So generally it not really recommended but the option is there

I hope this helps please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions on this.

Best regards

Cormac

my computer setup:

Dell XPS 730x
Intel core i7 930 (quad core with hyperthreading)
6GB ram
four 500GB SSD drives in two RAID1 arrays
Nvidia GT460 video card with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory
Dell U2711 monitor at 2560x1440 resolution (main editing monitor)
Dell E228WFP at 1680x1200 resolution (secondary monitor)

I have the stretch option on, I have the high quality stretch option on, I have the mixer set at High performance.
If I’m reading your response correctly I should have it set at medium or low performance to get a larger image in the secondary preview window? if that is the case that seems backwards to me.

I have just set the performance to low and the program is re-parsing my video clip (imported at 2560x1440 res). I will let you know my results.

Thanks for the speedy responses, they are much appreciated.

I would also like to throw this out there: I bought your program to see if it would be a viable alternative to Adobe Premiere (which I use most of the time) and so far I must say I have been impressed with it’s capabilities. It has a couple of features that I feel are missing but overall you have created an excellent product, especially when you consider the price is about 1/50th of what premiere costs.

Yeah, setting the mixer to “LOW” performance makes the video looks superb. Thanks so much for your help
