Lesson Structure
Class Activity 1
Teacher gives a detailed explanation of the terminology and processes involved in File Management (Disk Storage, Disk Drives, Files, Folders, Windows Explorer, Create a New Folder, Move Files or Folders, Copy Files or Folders, Rename a file or folder, find a file, Delete & Restore a File or Folder, Create a Shortcut and Keyboard Shortcuts). See resources above for more information on these topics.
Class Activity 2
Students can watch trakAxPC tutorials on “Using the Media Browser”, “Saving a Mix for future editing”, “Exporting a Mix” and “Extract your CD directly into trakAxPC” (links below).
Class Activity 3
Students can select their favourite songs or record video segments. Students can break into groups and begin to import files using trakAxPC or Windows Explorer. Students should create specific folders for their new files so that they can be easily found and used. For example folders can include the student’s last name, initial and the date: Gallagher_C_June
Class Activity 4
Students should locate their files in the Media Browser within trakAxPC. Students can edit and/or convert their files in the mixing screen and Save or Rename their mix. Students can also export their mix to a new file type or convert their file to a different file type. They should pay attention to the file name (is it recognisable / will they find it?) and the different file extensions.
Class Activity 5
Students should also rename/move/copy folders where they have saved their mixes and try and reopen them in trakAxPC (Note* - some files will appear as missing depending on the action taken, this shows the importance of file management and understanding folder/file names and location). They should also delete folders and try and restore them (Recycle Bin).
Class Activity 6
Students can use the trakKutter and Mixing screen to help develop their keyboard shortcuts such as:
- Copy: Ctrl + C
- Cut: Ctrl + X
- Paste: Ctrl + V
- Undo your last action: Ctrl + Z
- Save: Ctrl + S
trakAxPC Tutorials
Once students understand the basics of File Management, they can begin to use trakAxPC to import, copy, move, save, rename and delete files and folders giving them a better insight into how files and folders work. If students are completely new to trakAxPC, we suggest watching the following tutorials first:
